June 23, 2025 |

For the first time since we launched the Wilma conversion for the mid roof Transit back in 2021, we’re rolling out a brand-new bed layout, and it’s one that was very much inspired by you, our Wayfarian community.

We’ve spent a lot of time listening to our Wayfarians at campouts, over email, and of course on the Wayfarer Vans Fan Page. You told us what’s working, what’s not, and what you’d love to see.

Some of you mentioned that climbing into bed takes an acrobatic feat. Others in the vertically-gifted category said the beds are a little short. A few folks admitted they’re not always in the mood to cuddle their travel companion all night. And when the weather turns crummy, plenty of you said you’d love more room to hang out inside the van.

So we took all that feedback and developed something new – the Twin Bed Dinette layout, now available for the Wayfarer Vans’ lineup.

Let’s dig into the details and see if this layout is a good fit for you.

What is the Twin Bed Dinette?

The Twin Bed Dinette layout is built from two benches that run along the back walls of the van. They’re similar to our wheel well accessory, but are the length of the wheel well and boot box fused together, and have added functionality specific to this layout. And here’s the cool part: it’s not just one layout. You can switch between four different settings to adapt to your needs on the fly.

We swapped out the fixed bed in the back for a lower version that’s way more versatile. Now, your bed sits just 18 inches off the floor, plus a 5-inch mattress, making the total height a comfy 23 inches, right on par with a standard bed at home.

Setting 1: Two couches or two single beds

Sleep like Lucy and Ricky on side-by-side beds with an aisle between, or just enjoy extra elbow room in the most spacious interior of all of our van setups. This configuration is perfect for day trips when you need to spread out. Whether you’re hanging out between soccer practices for your kids or setting up a private basecamp at the base of the ski hill – this option is for you.

Setting 2: Horseshoe bed

This is our favorite for everyday practicality. You get the best of both worlds in this setup – a bed and a dining/lounge area at the same time. The horseshoe shape makes it easy to relax, eat, work or sleep without needing to adjust anything.

Setting 3: Colorado King

If you prioritize your sleeping space, we’ve got you covered with the granddaddy of them all. With a bed that is wider than a queen, and just a bit shorter than a king, you have plenty of room to catch some Zsss.

Setting 4: One Single Bed

If you don’t want both beds (like, ever), you can get your conversion with just the ‘solo traveler’ setup. This is a favorite for the individual who also needs room to haul BIG toys. Picture yourself tucked in comfortably on one half of your van, while your dirt bike, paragliding fan, harp or other big hobby gear is safely stashed across from you.

This Swiss Army Knife conversion is ready to do it all, with the same exceptional quality you’ve come to expect from Wayfarer Vans.

Who is the dinette layout best for?

  • Folks who want to roll out of (or into bed) with ease. This bed sits nice and low – only 18” from the floor to the top of the bed platform, and 23” with the memory foam cushion on top. That’s the same as a standard bed at home.

  • Not Cuddle Buddies. The north-south bed orientation means no more climbing over someone in the middle of the night. And with the twin setup, you each get your own space. Want to snuggle? The Lagun tables drop down into a bunk platform between the two beds and the backrest cushions go on top  – voilá: you’re now sleeping in our Colorado King, the biggest bed in our lineup.

  • People who love to host. The dinette booths offer plenty of room to sit and chill, with seating for eight, comfortably (or up to 12 in the Walt conversion with swivel seats and a double bench). There’s ample legroom between the seats, and two Lagun tables on swivels, which gives you enough space for game night, a shared meal, or just hanging out with your camp buddies on a rainy day.

  • For people with kids. The low bed makes it easier for little ones to climb in and out safely. In the horseshoe setting you can keep one half of the bed down for nap time while the other half stays in dinette mode: perfect for meals, relaxing, or getting some work done. And with the Colorado King option, there’s plenty of room for co-sleeping families. As always, be sure to follow safe sleep guidelines and consult your pediatrician when camping with infants.

  • For Walt owners. This layout is a dream in the RAM ProMaster 159” wheelbase. Everything fits with ease and there are no limitations on other options or accessories that you can install. This layout does come with some tradeoffs depending on which make and model of van you have. View our product page for details on which accessories may be limited for Walter, Wilma or Wilford vans.

Who might want to stick with our classic layout?

  • If you need to store bulky gear inside the van, like bikes or paddleboards, the raised bed platform in our standard layout may be your best bet.
  • If you’re traveling with multiple passengers and rely on our bunk bed option – the dinette layout isn’t compatible with that setup.
  • If you’ve got pets that you prefer to keep out of bed, the elevated platform is best for keeping the garage space a versatile ‘pet hotel’.

FAQs

  • I already have a Wayfarer, can I get my van retrofitted?
Out of the gate, we’re only offering the Twin Bed Dinette layout on new conversions, but retrofits are on our road map, and we’re hoping to offer them shortly. Contact your Wayfarer Journey Architect to be on the list!
  • How easy is it to convert the bed into a dinette and back again?
Like all of our modular furniture, switching between the bed and dinette mode only takes a few minutes. And, in this case, no tools are needed. When it’s time to sleep, drop the Lagun tables into the center walkway and toss the backrest cushions down for a cozy setup. Ready for breakfast? Raise ’em back up in moments!
  • Will I lose storage space with this layout?
You may need to move bulky items like bikes to the outside of your van, but the Twin Bed Dinette offers plenty of storage space within the benches.
  • Is there a space to store the table when I’m sleeping?
Yes, the tables become the bed platform! By pulling double duty, you don’t have to store a bed platform when you’re eating, and you don’t have to store a table when you’re sleeping. The Colorado King comes with one extra bed platform piece that stores on a hook at the side of the galley.
  • How much does the Twin Bed Dinette cost?

    $28,800

    Wilma

    Walt

  • Can I only get one side of the dinette so I can store a bike on the other side?
Absolutely. For the lone wolves of our pack, you can go with the solo traveler option, which includes just one side of the dinette and one Lagun table. Or, since all of our furniture is modular, you can simply remove one side whenever you need extra room for gear like a bike.
