We all remember our first time… the first time camping in your new Wayfarer Van that is! And don’t worry, like everyone else your first time will feel clumsy and a little bit awkward. But hey, that’s part of the fun and before you know it, you’ll be an expert at camping in your Wayfarer Van.

However, for those of you that want to avoid some of the missteps or want a head start on making that first time go as smoothly as possible, here’s a little advice.

First, you will always bring way more than you need in terms of camping gear. We understand that you will eventually whittle your way down to the essentials, but do you really need that full cutlery set as if you were getting ready for a Thanksgiving dinner? The answer is no.

Second, you’ll be so busy trying to think of all the things you might need that you’ll end up forgetting the things you do need. For instance, we’re sure Brian was so focused on everything else that he forgot to pack a fork. So, when you go to pack your van for your first trip, start with the absolute essentials first but no matter what, you will inevitably find yourself at Walmart picking up some of those forgotten items.

Third – for gosh sakes, keep it simple! You got a Wayfarer Van because we don’t load up our builds with all the bloated amenities that come in an RV. The more simplistic you keep it the easier your trip will be and the more fun you’ll have. Brian decided an induction stove top was a good idea but instead it zapped nearly all of his battery life and threw a breaker in his complicated electrical system. By the time he finished cooking dinner he was sold on a simple propane stove top; and if you read our post from his previous video we don’t subscribe to solar, rather we use an out of the box solution for our electrical needs.

So, to wrap things up – keep it simple and focus on packing just the essentials. Less is always more but if you need some help on deciding what is or what isn’t essential, email us and we can help you out. And lastly, if you don’t want to hassle with thinking about everything you might need, we have all of the camping gear we use and recommend here at Wayfarer Vans HQ. So you can pick up everything you need in our shop before venturing off into the wild, knowing you didn’t forget something as simple as a fork.
