Whether you are looking for a more comfortable camping experience, or you want to be able to stretch your limits with year-round camping in frigid environments – this heater will make it possible. We’ve dubbed this accessory the “Hot Wheelie” because we’ve taken our standard wheel well box and modified it to accommodate the furnace and propane locker.
The furnace we install is made by Propex, and it offers a reliable, efficient and safe heating option for your van. Propane burns cleaner than gasoline, so it does not require regular maintenance to remove carbon buildup as other types of heaters do, and performs better at altitude. It is effective for consistent heat controlled by a thermostat – you can even set a timer to have it turn on at the end of your ski day, or before you get out of bed in the morning. And most importantly it is safe. We include a two-stage regulator, and there are no exposed heating elements, and the propane contained in a locker and vented externally.
The Hot Wheelie will keep your van comfortable – with the dry heat you won’t have any condensation in the van, and you don’t need to crack a window since everything is externally vented. The exact performance of the furnace will vary depending on elevation, humidity and a variety of environmental factors, but in our experience camping at -10℉, we ran the heater all night long (cycling on and off) and could keep the van around 45℉ degrees.
The Hot Wheelie can be included with your installation day for a new van. We can retrofit some existing Wayfarer Vans – note that the age of your van, DIY projects, battery compatibility and other factors will determine if we can install this in your van. All Hot Wheelies will be installed on the driver’s side of the van.
Safety precautions: Read all manufacturer instructions prior to use. Follow all DOT regulations for traveling and storing propane in a vehicle. Disconnect propane hose prior to driving. Pair with necessary safety alarms to monitor for fire, carbon monoxide and propane leaks.
