RAM ProMaster
136″ WHEELBASE, HIGH ROOF
Our install days run like a well-oiled machine. We prep every part of your conversion before your van shows up so we can guarantee you a smooth and speedy conversion.
But one mistake that can bring the best laid plans to a screeching halt is showing up with the wrong van 😬
While they’re few and far between, it’s happened. We want to make every install day a happy one, but there’s simply no way around a sad situation if you show up with a van that we don’t convert.
We design every element of your conversion with very specific dimensions based on the make and model, and one little change can throw everything off.
Here’s the skinny on making sure you’ve got the right rig before the Wayfarer magic happens!
Vans can be confusing, especially with all the different lengths, heights, and wheelbases. Honestly, even dealerships can get it wrong.
Not sure if a van is Wayfarer-compatible? Send the listing to our Journey Architects and they can give you a full-on vote of confidence.
Send us as many of these as you can:
Our Journey Architects have seen it all, and can give you a quick red light or green light on whether this van is the perfect camper conversion.
These are the ONLY vans we convert:
✅ RAM ProMaster, 136” Wheelbase, Standard Length, High Roof, Cargo Van
✅ RAM ProMaster, 159” Wheelbase, Standard Length, High Roof, Cargo Van
✅ Ford Transit, 148” Wheelbase, Long Body, Mid Roof, Cargo Van
✅ Ford Transit, 148” Wheelbase, Long Body, High Roof, Cargo Van
If it’s not on this list, we can’t convert it.
We don’t work on Mercedes Sprinters, minivans, school buses, pickup trucks, or covered wagons. There are custom builders who will convert just about anything on wheels, but our lower costs, faster installs, and reliable builds are only possible because we focus on a specific set of vans.

One of the most common mix-ups we see is with vehicle size. The two most important measurements are the wheelbase and roof height.
For the RAM ProMaster:
We CAN convert:
✅ 136” Wheelbase, Standard Length, High Roof, Cargo Van
✅ 159” Wheelbase, Standard Length, High Roof, Cargo Van
We CANNOT convert:
⛔159” Wheelbase, Extended Length
⛔ Super High Roof
⛔ Standard Roof – also called “low roof,” because RAM likes to keep things interesting
⛔ Low Roof – yup, same confusion as above
⛔ Anything with a 118” wheelbase
⛔ ProMaster City – this was our original camper van, but was retired from the Wayfarer lineup when RAM stopped producing it
ProMaster City
118″ wheelbase
159″ wheelbase extended
For the Ford Transit:
We CAN convert:
✅ Ford Transit, 148” Wheelbase, Long Body, Mid Roof, Cargo Van
✅ Ford Transit, 148” Wheelbase, Long Body, High Roof, Cargo Van
We CANNOT convert:
⛔ Vans with more than 4 wheels – watch out for dually wheels in the back
⛔ Low Roof
⛔ Anything with a 130” wheelbase
⛔ Extended wheelbase
⛔ Transit Connect
⛔ Electric, E-Transit editions
⚠️ The Trail Transit versions may be compatible with a Wayfarer Conversion, but there are several caveats with these models, so it’s best to talk to your Journey Architect if you are considering either of these.
Even if you are 99.9% sure you have the right van, circle back to step #1 and reach out to us. We love getting pics of new vans and giving you peace of mind that you’re on the right track.

Make sure you’re looking at cargo vans with a big, empty space in the back – not crew or passenger vans with wraparound windows and rear seats. Even if every seat is removed, these vans have not so subtle differences with additional trim, airbags and seat mounts that won’t work with a Wayfarer Vans conversion.
Watch out for these names in van listings:
RAMS:
❌ RAM ProMaster Window Van
❌ RAM ProMaster Passenger Van
❌ RAM ProMaster Crew Van/Crew Package
Transits:
❌ Ford Transit Passenger Van XL
❌ Ford Transit Passenger Van XLT
❌ Ford Transit Passenger Wagon (any trim)
Psst..don’t forget step #1 and reach out to your Journey Architect to confirm if the van you’re looking at will be the right fit.

We don’t say no because we like to crush dreams. We say no because we’re intentional about our process.
Our conversions aren’t designed to stretch or shrink, even by an inch. Every cabinet, panel, and component is part of a bigger system. And if one measurement changes, it creates a domino effect across the entire build.
When we launch a new van size, it’s a 1-2 year process of designing, prototyping, and testing. It’s not a small tweak we can make on install day.
We love creativity and all of the ideas that people bring, but no amount of cookies or oranges (yup, that’s a thing) can sway us towards custom work or adaptations.
Windows can offer you a great clue to know if the van you’re looking at is compatible, or is going to be a dead end for a Wayfarer conversion. Watch out for these clues:
❌ Any window above the rear wheels
❌ Windows down the entire side of the van
These windows not only get in the way of our insulation, walls and attachment points, but they often indicate that the van is actually a passenger van, and not a cargo van.
So when you are sending photos to your Journey Architect (because we can’t repeat step #1 enough) be sure to send photos of any windows.
Wrap around windows
Wrap around windows and dual rear wheels
The cargo area must be empty, so watch out for vans with shelving, A/C units, or bulkheads.
They are easy to overlook, but one tricky option that can throw off a van’s compatibility is if an additional floor has been installed. We’re sounding like a broken record here…. But talk to your Journey Architect if the flooring is anything but factory (e.g. heavy-duty load floor and scuff plate protection package).
Sometimes these features are easy to remove, but other times they can create bigger issues. Snap a few photos and send them over – we’ll help you determine if it’s a good fit.
We don’t see this issue very often, but keep in mind that used RAM vans need to be from 2014 or newer, and used Ford vans from 2015 or newer to work with the Wayfarer Vans conversion.
If you are eyeing a van that has had aftermarket work done, definitely reach out to us first.
Pre-Installed flares to make the sleeping area over the wheels wider, or an added pop-top roof tent on a van will make it impossible for our standard conversion to play nicely.
Install day should be all about excitement, high fives, and a smooth start to your new adventure. Reach out before you schedule your install so we can help avoid a costly and time-consuming mistake; we love to partner with you for the best Vandoff (aka Van Handoff) Day ever!
P.S. Pretty, pretty please, send us pictures of your van. It’s kind of our thing!
